Whether using a physical VoIP Phone or VoIP softphone, it is possible for Yay.com Users to pick up an incoming call on another extension via a unique key code.
By default on all Yay accounts we set this short code to *35, this can be changed if you want to though in your Short Codes pages of Your Dashboard Simply dial the allocated Short Code, followed by the extension number that is ringing to pick up a phone call.
We also have a second short code, *36 by default that picks up any incoming call! So if you want a blanket pickup that doesn’t require you to also dial the extension of the user then you can use that one as well.
Additionally, you can also pick up incoming calls to a hunt group, by doing the same *35 dial, but then follow that up with the extension of the hunt group. If you want to only allow certain users to be able to use the call pickup this way, you can go to the Hunt Group section of Your Dashboard and toggle Group Pickup Permissions on.
Lastly, if you’re using a physical VoIP phone that we offer auto-provisioning service for (if you’re not sure if your phone applies, you can check this list of devices that we support this for) then we do call pickup by default for you! If you use our Provisioning page of a user’s settings to set up BLFs of your users then call pickup is automatically integrated into that BLF. In other words when one of the users that you have as a BLF gets a call, you’ll see their BLF flashing, and by pressing it you automatically dial the pickup short code and their extension so that you pick up their call.
One thing to bear in mind when looking at call pickup is that you’ll need to make sure that each user who’s making use of it has the correct permissions to allow for that user to pick up other user’s calls, as well as allow for others to pick up calls to them.
Those settings can be found in the ‘Advanced’ section of the user’s settings.
